Muslim Persecution of Christians: January, 2013

By , March 29, 2013 7:43 am

The 2013 year began with reports indicating that wherever Christians live side by side with large numbers of Muslims, they are under attack. One report said that “Africa, where Christianity spread fastest during the past century, now is the region where oppression of Christians is spreading fastest.” This is certainly true: whether in Kenya, Nigeria, Mali, Somalia, Sudan, or Tanzania, attacks on Christians in those countries are as frequent as they are graphic.

As for the Middle East, the cradle of Christianity, a new study by the Pew Forum finds that “just 0.6 percent of the world’s 2.2 billion Christians now live in the Middle East and North Africa. Christians make up only 4% of the region’s inhabitants, drastically down from 20% a century ago and marking the smallest regional Christian minority in the world. Fully 93% of the region is Muslim, and 1.6% is Jewish.”

How Christianity became all but eradicated from the region where it was born is made clear by yet another report concerning Egypt’s Christian Copts, the Middle East’s largest Christian minority. Due to a “climate of fear and uncertainty,” Christian families are leaving Egypt in large numbers. Along with regular church attacks, the situation has gotten to the point that, according to one Coptic priest, “Salafis meet Christian girls in the street and order them to cover their hair. Sometimes they hit them when they refuse.” Another congregation leader said “With the new [Sharia-heavy] constitution, the new laws that are expected, and the majority in parliament I don’t believe we can be treated on an equal basis.”

Elsewhere, Christians are not allowed to flee. In eastern Syria, for example, 25,000 Christians, including Syriac Orthodox, Syriac Catholics, Chaldeans and Armenians, were prevented from fleeing due to a number of roadblocks set up by armed Islamic militia groups, who deliberately target Christians for robbery and kidnapping for ransoming, often slaughtering their victims.

Categorized by theme, January’s batch of Muslim persecution of Christians around the world includes (but is not limited to) the following accounts, listed by theme and in country alphabetical order, not necessarily according to severity:

Church Attacks

Egypt: Reminiscent of the 2011 New Year’s Eve church bombing in Alexandria, which left over 23 Christians dead, a car packed with explosives was discovered by a Coptic church celebrating Christmas [which is in January] and neutralized before detonating. A car with masked men was seen speeding away as patrols seized the explosives-packed car. Separately, hundreds of Muslims in the village of Fanous destroyed a social services building belonging to a Coptic Church while chanting Islamic slogans. Security forces arrived only after the building was completely destroyed. According to the report, the social services building “had all the necessary government permits; it had a reception hall on the first floor and a kindergarten on the second. But the Muslims insisted that it would become a church.” Mosques in surrounding areas had earlier called on Muslims through their megaphones to go and help their Muslim brethren in Fanous, because Christians were “building a church.” Hundreds of other Muslim protesters rioted outside yet another church in Upper Egypt, throwing stones at the building, on claims that a Christian man had sexually assaulted a 6-year-old Muslim girl. Four stores owned by Copts were also torched. Police are investigating the accusations.

Nigeria: A total of 30 Christians were slaughtered in two separate attacks carried out by armed men ahead of the New Year in the Muslim-majority north: on Sunday December 30, 15 people were killed when armed jihadis stormed a church and opened fire on worshippers. The night before, Muslim terrorists broke into selected homes and slaughtered 15 other Christians in their sleep. “The victims were selected because they were all Christians, some of whom had moved into the neighbourhood from other parts of the city hit by Boko Haram attacks,” said a relief worker. Meanwhile, Nigerian president Jonathan revealed that Boko Haram has enablers even within his own government: “the saboteurs in government condoning terrorism by Boko Haram, you do not love this nation. Those of you who leak secrets to Boko Haram do not love this nation.”

Pakistan: On Christmas day, “when Christian worshipers were coming out of different Churches after performing Christmas prayers, more than one hundred Muslim extremists equipped with automatic rifles, pistols and sticks attacked the Christian women, children and men,” according to a report. Several were shot or beaten relentlessly. Much of this appears to have been exacerbated by a fatwa, or an Islamic edict, that came out right before Christmas, saying that, “Christmas cannot be celebrated by Muslims because it is against the concept of monotheism in Islam.” Due to the subsequent chaos, Christians “were under siege from Christmas day and running out of food supplies and milk for children on fear of safety and security of life from further attacks of [the] Muslim mob…. The news of this attack on Christians on Christmas Day was intentionally blocked by media and administration of capital city Islamabad.”

Russia: Security forces in a North Caucasus province on Sunday killed three Islamic militants suspected of planning attacks on church services during the Russian Orthodox Christmas holiday, which comes in January. Security forces tried to stop a van in a Muslim-majority province but its occupants opened fire and were killed in the ensuing battle. Guns and ammunition were subsequently discovered in the van indicating that the men were planning attacks on churches during services marking Russian Orthodox Christmas. “Deadly exchanges of gunfire between police and suspected militants at road checkpoints are common in Russia’s North Caucasus, a string of provinces hit by an Islamist insurgency rooted in two separatist wars in Chechnya,” adds the report.

Murders and Plots of Murder

Algeria: According to a local man who escaped an Islamic raid in the Sahara, the Islamic gunmen who seized hundreds of gas plant workers told staff they would not harm Muslims but would kill Western hostages whom they referred to as “Christians and infidels”: “The terrorists told us at the very start that they would not hurt Muslims but were only interested in the Christians and infidels. ‘We will kill them,’ they said.”

Egypt: Two bearded men, apparently Salafis –those Muslims who most try to pattern themselves after Islam’s prophet–in what appears to have been a random act of violence, stabbed a Christian woman in Alexandria. The two men were riding a motorcycle when they intercepted Mary and stabbed her in her abdomen as she was crossing the street, causing a serious wound in her peritoneal membrane. The Coptic woman was transported to the hospital where she underwent surgery. Although Mary’s family filed a complaint with the police, as usual, the head detective refused to go out and inspect the assault scene. An activist confirmed that this is not the first attack on Coptic women in Alexandria. Indeed there have been several such cases reported in January without any response from authorities.

Iraq: The nation’s ever dwindling Christian minority continues to suffer untold atrocities. A Christian university medical student was killed by a car bomb a day after the body of a 54-year-old female Christian teacher was found with her throat cut. The slain Christian woman was discovered in the same area where attacks have been perpetrated in the past against members of the city’s Christian minority, some abducted and murdered.

Turkey: An assassination plot against a Protestant pastor was thwarted when police arrested 14 suspects, two of whom had been part of his congregation for more than a year, pretending to be interested in Christianity; one went so far as to be baptized. “These people had infiltrated our church and collected information about me, my family and the church and were preparing an attack against us,” said the pastor, a native Turk and convert to Christianity. “Two of them attended our church for over a year and they were like family.”

Also, an 85-year-old Christian Armenian woman was repeatedly stabbed to death in her apartment. A crucifix was carved onto her naked corpse. Another elderly Christian Armenian woman was punched in the head and, after collapsing to the floor, repeatedly kicked by a masked man. According to the report, “the attack marks the fifth in the past two months against elderly Armenian women (one has lost an eye)…. Opinion remains divided as to whether these are organised hate crimes targeting non-Muslims or just random theft.” Yet according to Turkey’s Human Rights Association, “The attacks were carried out with racist motives,” that is, the victims were intentionally targeted for being Christian Armenians.

Apostasy, Blasphemy, Proselytism

Egypt: A court sentenced an entire family–Nadia Mohamed Ali and her seven children–to fifteen years in prison for converting to Christianity. Seven other people were sentenced to five years in prison, primarily for facilitating the formal conversion of the family. A born Christian, Nadia had earlier converted to Islam to marry a Muslim man; reconverting back to Christianity after the death of her husband, she attempted to reflect this change formally on her identity card and her children’s, which created suspicions among security, who arrested the family, followed by the subsequent fifteen year prison sentence.

Iran: Saeed Abedini, an American-Iranian Christian pastor was arrested and, in a sham trial, sentenced “to eight years in prison for threatening the national security of Iran through his leadership in Christian house churches. He will serve the time in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison, known as one of the most brutal.” “This is a real travesty–a mockery of justice,” said the American pastor’s attorney. “From the very beginning, Iranian authorities have lied about all aspects of this case, even releasing rumors of his expected release. Iran has not only abused its own laws, it has trampled on the fundamentals of human rights.” This would certainly not be the first time Tehran behaves in such a manner.

Malaysia: Threats to burn Bibles in the Malay language were the latest in a series of attacks on Christianity in a nation regularly touted in the Western press as an example of a “moderate” Muslim nation. A note, written in Malay, was sent to a Christian priest saying a Bible-burning festival would soon take place; it ended with a warning in English: “Let’s teach ‘em a lesson.” This latest threat “has had the desired effect of adding to the despair of Malaysian Christians. A fortnight ago the Sultan of the State of Selangor forbade Christians from using the word ‘Allah’, defying practice and convention in the country. The Arabic term for God, in usage in religious and cultural contexts before the dawn of Islam, has been used in Bibles in the Malay language and litany for more than 400 years.” Attacks on Christianity in the nation are often framed in fear that Christianity will spread if not kept in check.
Dhimmitude

[General Abuse and Suppression of Non-Muslims as "Tolerated" Citizens]

Egypt: A Muslim preacher, Hisham al-Ashri, appeared on primetime television saying that women not wearing the hijab, or veil, in public, are asking to get raped. He framed his discussion around Christians, who in Egypt are obviously most likely not to wear veils.

“I was once asked: If I came to power, would I let Christian women remain unveiled? And I said: If they want to get raped on the streets, then they can,” said the Muslim preacher. He further said that, “In order for Egypt to become fully Islamic, alcohol must be banned and all women must be covered,” a remark that clearly does not take Egypt’s large Christian minority–whose own religious beliefs do not mandate veils or ban alcohol–into consideration.

Indonesia: After being threatened with closure, six Catholic schools in the nation which has the largest Muslim population in the world, finally agreed to hire Islamic teachers and offer Islamic lessons to Muslim students. While this seems equitable, in reality, Muslim schools habitually refuse to offer Christian lessons to Christian students in public schools, which teach Islam to all students. As one Indonesian commentator put it, “If the regulation is upheld, will Islamic schools, which are more exclusive than Catholic schools when it comes to accepting students of different faiths, also be required to provide Buddhist, Christian or Hindu lessons for their non-Muslim students?” Separately, the Indonesia Ulema Council’s East Java chapter urged other regions in the province to issue similar decrees so that all schools, be they state-run or managed by Christian foundations, provide Islamic lessons for their Muslim students.

Pakistan: A powerful government official’s aide running a prostitution ring abducted a 15-year-old Christian girl from her home, forcing her to convert to Islam and marry him. A tenant of the Christian family, the Muslim man was evicted after police exposed his prostitution ring. After he left, the girl disappeared; he called the girl’s family, and according to the mother, “He also claimed that Asma [the girl] had converted to Islam and asked us not to look for her, as she won’t be returning home. I could not believe my ears, because Asma is hardly 15 and Ghaji [the Muslim man] is thrice her age,” she said. “I told him that I wanted to speak to Asma for the last time, so he handed over the phone to her. ‘What have you done my child, my child?’ I asked as Asma burst into tears. (She said), ‘They are not going to let me return home, mother–do something.’” Police, as usual, refused to register a case, telling the devastated parents, “Do you know Ghaji works for Siraj Durrani [a governmental official]? I’d suggest that you forget your daughter and stop creating problems for your other children.”

Tanzania: During a Friday mosque sermon, a cleric called on Muslims “not to cooperate with Christians because they were infidels. He insisted that Muslims should not take part in Christian festivals like Christmas, Easter and other celebrations, including baptism and confirmation.” He also called on Muslims not to go to Christian funeral services, because infidel Christians are to be buried as dogs: “Let me tell you if you came from a Christian father or mother, but you got assimilated [converted to Islam], consider yourself you are lucky. But if one of your parents is deceased, you shouldn’t burry [sic] him or her, but just put him/her in the grave as if you [were] doing it to a dead dog.” The report further adds that, “Since the founding of the Saad bin Mwazi mosque in Makorora half a decade ago [where the above sermon took place], most residents of the area, including Christians and Muslims have been listening to hate sermons uttered in the mosque.”

Uzbekistan: Police detained 80 church leaders in a raid on a ministry training gathering. In the process they insulted the Christians and confiscated their Bibles and Christian books, which were later destroyed by a court order. According to the report, “Four leaders were charged with offences under the country’s harsh laws regarding religious practice, including violating the procedure for holding religious meetings, carrying out unauthorised religious activity and teaching religious beliefs without permission. They were each fined more than a year’s salary in Uzbekistan and are appealing against the ruling. On 24 December, a court ordered that Bibles confiscated during the raid must be destroyed, despite the fact that the Committee on the Religious Affairs of Uzbekistan officially recognises the Bible as a legitimate text.”

About this Series

Because the persecution of Christians in the Islamic world is on its way to reaching pandemic proportions, “Muslim Persecution of Christians” was developed to collate some–by no means all–of the instances of persecution that surface each month. It serves two purposes:

1. Intrinsically, to document that which the mainstream media does not: the habitual, increasingly chronic, Muslim persecution of Christians.

2. Instrumentally, to show that such persecution is not “random,” but systematic and interrelated–that it is rooted in a worldview inspired by Sharia.

Accordingly, whatever the anecdote of persecution, it typically fits under a specific theme, including hatred for churches and other Christian symbols; apostasy and blasphemy laws; sexual abuse of Christian women; forced conversions to Islam; theft and plunder in lieu of jizya (tribute); overall expectations for Christians to behave like cowed “dhimmis” (barely tolerated citizens); and simple violence and murder. Oftentimes it is a combination thereof.

Because these accounts of persecution span different ethnicities, languages, and locales–from Morocco in the west, to India in the east, and throughout the West, wherever there are Muslims–it should be clear that one thing alone binds them: Islam–whether the strict application of Islamic Sharia law, or the supremacist culture born of it.

Coptic Movements to Protest Against Egyptian Regime on January 25

By , January 21, 2013 7:35 pm

Several Coptic movements announced they would participate in Friday’s protests to commemorate the 25 January revolution under the motto, “down with the regime.”

They will join the National Salvation Front and other political forces in marching from Shubra to Tahrir Square after Friday prayers. Coptic movements across the governorates also plan to protest.

“[Maspero Youth] Union members will stage mass rallies on Friday along with other national forces. They will raise flags and chant slogans for the downfall of the Muslim Brotherhood,” said Nader Shokry, the union’s spokesperson.

“President [Mohamed] Morsy and his group seek control of the Egyptian state. They want to satisfy the US administration and Qatar, and suppress opposition,” he added.

The protests call for cancelling the divisive, Islamist-leaning Constitution that was ratified in December, Shokry continued.

John Talaat, coordinator of the Early Sectarian Alert Movement, said his group would also take part in protests, which he said are aimed at achieving the revolution’s demands.

“The Muslim Brotherhood wasn’t part of the revolution. They renounced it while the youth were sacrificing their lives for the sake of the country. And they reconciled with former regime officials, and are trying to sell the Suez Canal to Qatar,” Talaat claimed.

The quality of life for Copts has significantly worsened under the Morsy administration, said Abram Louis, the leader of the Copts without Restrictions group. Since the Islamist president’s inauguration, Coptic women have been kidnapped and churches have been attacked. The Al-Marashda Church in Qena was recently attacked, for instance, after a Muslim family accused a Coptic man of sexually assaulting their daughter.

“But the forensic medicine department proved the accusations were false,” Louis claimed.

The Brotherhood dismisses the opposition as infidels, he continued. Participation in the second anniversary of revolution is imperative in order to demand the downfall of an “illegal group that seeks to transform Egypt into Afghanistan,” Louis concluded.

They change us – Bashar Assad Speech from January 6, 2013
By: Bashar Assad Speech from January 6, 2013 on: 12.01.2013 [18:18 ] (92 reads)

January 6, 2013, President of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) Bashar Assad gave a speech in the Damascus Opera House, emphasizing the essence of the crisis situation in Syria: the struggle for cultural and civilized light, beginning with wildness, barbarism and ignorance of Islamic militancy. Bashar Assad has performed on stage with the Syrian national flag, composed of thousands of photographs of the dead citizens in the war of Syria. Proposals for resolving the crisis in Syria, Assad proposed in this statement, Westerners have called “far from reality”, the United States, UN Special Representative Brahimi and Britain’s Foreign Minister reacted to Assad’s speech with the words: “murder, violence and repression are the fault of Assad.

Yesterday, January 11, 2013, in Geneva, the next round of tripartite talks on Syria by Russia, the U.S. and the UN representative took place. Russian Foreign Ministry in anticipation of the meeting, in an official statement to the press on January 9, 2013 indirectly approved the proposal by Bashar Assad: “The Russian side expects to continue the search for an effective international assistance to resolve an acute internal crisis in Syria, in particular on the basis of the need to rely on the Geneva communiqué” action group “of 30 June 2012 and subject to a number of ideas voiced in President Bashar al-Assad CAP January 6, 2013. Syrian officials, in particular, confirmed the readiness to launch new dialogue and reform the country through Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, as proclaimed in the UN Charter and other international instruments and the Geneva communiqué of 30 June 2012. “

Below is the full text Assad January 6, 2013, giving the readers an opportunity to evaluate proposals made to them and the vision of the situation in Syria and the Syrian government as a whole.

Mr Prime Minister, honorable members of the government heads and members of trade unions and social organizations, Sisters and Brothers,

Today I look at your face and the faces of the citizens of our country and I see in them grief and pain. I looked in the eyes of the children of Syria and I do not see their innocent and carefree laughter, and I do not see any of the toys which would be able to bring a smile on their faces. I look at the hands of our older people and see that they are drawn to pray for the salvation of their son, daughter or grandchild.

Today’s meeting is marred by the suffering, hanging over Syria, suffering, occurring in each house of our country. On the streets of our country there has been no peace and security.

Today’s meeting is overshadowed by the fact that among us there are mothers who lost their sons, among us we have families who lost their breadwinners, there are children who are orphaned and there are brothers who have been separated from each other. Finally there are those who became a martyr and who are missing.

When the pain is like a dark cloud hanging over the country, even emotionally elevated state cannot compensate for the loss of our beloved people and the restoration of security and peace in the country and provide the country with bread, water, fuel and medicine.

From the depth of our pain to be born of hope and the power of our suffering and generate the right decision for our deliverance. Since this black cloud covering Syria, closes us from sunlight, the same cloud contains and life-giving water, hope and salvation.

These feelings of pain, sadness, stress and hopelessness are a tremendous energy that will not be able to pull Syria out of its crisis, if we cannot turn this energy into a comprehensive national patriotic and life-giving energy, which will save the country from the campaign aimed against us, and is unprecedented in history of the region as a whole. This national energy is the only effective balm for deep wounds, bleeding in our society and threatens to tear it apart. This national energy balm is the only way to save Syria geographically and strengthen it politically.

Every citizen must, and it is in their power to contribute to the cause, even if it is something he personally sees as small and not significant – they have to do it. Because our homeland is for everyone. We all defend our homeland, to the best of our abilities and opportunities, because thought is a form of protection, and a point of view is a form of protection, and the creation of something is a form of protection, and the property of people is also a form of protection of our country.

Since the start of the attacks on our homes all of the elements have a compelling cost, human and material resources, from that moment every attentive citizen of course understood that his passivity, his indecision and his hope for the other fellow will push his home closer to the abyss. Individuals of all solutions to the pressing problems of our common goal throws our country to step back from the crisis, which remains today as our homeland.

Since many of our citizens are trapped in distributed opinion, which is the current crisis as a conflict between the government and the opposition, so all these people remained indifferent, they acted in a neutral and inactive way. Therefore, our primary responsibility is to set up all our perceptions and our whole attitude towards the good of the motherland. The conflict we have one – the Motherland and its enemies, between people and murderers, between bread citizens with water and the warm welcome on the one hand, and those who deprive them of all this on the other hand, the conflict is between state security and stability, which we once were so proud, and panic and fear for the lives of people today.

They killed innocent civilians and kill the light in our country. They killed the educated and prominent people to spread their ignorance in our minds. They destroyed the infrastructure built with the money of citizens and have filled our lives with suffering. They deprived children of their schools to decapitate the future of our country, this they showed their indifference to our country. They cut off the electricity and communication lines; interrupt the supply of fuel, plunging the elderly and children in distress, leaving them to freeze in cold weather, without medicine. They have destroyed and looted stores of wheat and flour to a loaf of bread has become a dream for our citizens to simply starve people of hunger. So, is it looks like an internal conflict for power, or is it like a war between the homeland and its enemies? They – are the enemies of the people, and the enemies of the people – the enemies of God and enemies of God will burn in hellfire on Judgment Day.

In the beginning they wanted to organize a false revolution, but the Syrian people rose up against them. After that, they tried to act in the population secretly with money, media, and weapons. And when they failed again, they proceeded to the second phase, when they dropped their mask of “peaceful revolution” and used firearms openly, which they applied to this secret. They began to capture cities and towns to make them platforms to attack the larger cities. However, they did not break the cruelty and did not frighten our citizens because of their understanding of the situation and the persistence – so that our citizens have rejected these people and realize the falsity of their appeals. As a result, the terrorists retaliated against the people through mass terror and murder indiscriminately everywhere.

They call it a “revolution”, but in fact it has nothing to do with revolution. This revolution needs thinkers. Real revolutions are based on the thoughts and ideas. Where are their thinkers? The revolution needs a leader. Where and who is their leader? The real revolution is based on enlightenment and ideas, and not on ignorance, which throws the whole country back centuries ago. A true revolution spreads light; they do not blow up power lines. The real revolution is usually done by citizens and the people, not foreigner’s imported to rebel against the people. This revolution is being accomplished in the interest of the people and not against their interests. Are we seeing a revolution? Are these people revolutionaries? Or are they – a group of criminals?

At a time when they are armed gangs fighting on the front lines with the Syrian army opened, these Islamic fundamentalists who operate clandestinely, secretly and stealthily in the rear, the mass killing of civilians and staging terrorist attacks. Since the ideology of the Islamic fundamentalist is alien to our country, they import it from abroad, as represented by the profits of foreign mercenaries, and with the help of propaganda disseminated abroad. Thus, all these Islamic fundamentalists, members of al Qaeda and other extremists who call themselves “jihadists”, they massively flooded into Syria to take part in combat operations. Some of the armed bandits, having failed on the front lines, or frightened, went to the rear, where they proceeded to murder, sabotage, and create acts of terrorism, kidnapping and robbery.

We stand against them, the majority of whom are not Syrians and who came to the country, guided by their perverted beliefs and concepts, which they call Jihad. But in fact nothing could be farther from the Jihad and Islam, than those of their beliefs. Most of them – the terrorists, have infected ideology of Al-Qaeda, and I think most of you know how this kind of terrorism was created three decades ago in Afghanistan – with the help of the West and the Arabs with their money. Once the conceived mission of these terrorists over the collapse of the Soviet Union and the release of Soviet troops from Afghanistan, terrorism broke free and began to make attacks everywhere in the Arab world, the Islamic world, and then he proceeded to attack the West. They tried to get rid of it, with the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, but this kind of Islamic terrorism is only amplified and spread, starting to permeate society and the West. And so, the events in the Arab world, especially in Syria, given the possibility of Western powers, to channel as much as possible of these terrorists in Syria in order to turn it into a land of Jihad and thus get rid of his two unpleasant competitors simultaneously from these Islamic terrorists from Syria, which is a nuisance for the West.

One organization specializing in the study of terrorism, released about a month ago, a report on the activity of global terrorism, which says that in recent years the overall level of terrorism in the world has declined, especially in Central and East Asia. And it’s true, because most of the terrorists came to Syria from these countries; some terrorists have come to Syria and from the West. Penetration of these terrorists in any society is always a threat to internal security, but we have a chance to beat them, provided we have the will to do so. The most dangerous kind of penetration of terrorism in the society is its social and intellectual ideas of contamination of this terrorism. When this kind of terrorism enters a community, it becomes mis-shapen, divided and unstable, especially if the problem is not seriously engaged, regardless of the current crisis in Syria. We have to be above our differences. Otherwise, our legacy to our sons and grandsons will be blood. Syria, as we know it, does not want to be in this situation in the future – I have in mind not only the geographical Syria, in particular, I mean the Syrian society that does not want it. The ideas and beliefs of these terrorists incite rebellion and destruction of the geographical map with political structure of any society and its values. It’s a big responsibility to appear before this threat and we must come together to be able to take on this responsibility.

In the current crisis, there are other dimensions, not only domestic, as it has become clear to anyone who has eyes. In the region there are forces that seek to divide Syria, there are others who want to weaken the country, and there are still others who provide money and weapons to criminals, while the fourth give them every support and military training. We were not surprised that some neighboring countries have to relax and try to control the Syrian people, it is those countries who dream of a place in history that they really do not have, but they are trying to take this place, I wish them the history of writing ink with the blood of innocent Syrians. But Syria and the Syrian people are strong and resistant and the Syrians had sworn that he would never forget the actions of these countries.

Syria has always been and will remain a free and sovereign country. That is why the West finds Syria so desirable. Thus, they sought to take advantage of the internal events in Syria, to abolish the political influence of Syria from the balance of forces in the region to get rid of this annoying problem and destroy our resistance, and turn us into submission. But the West – not the international community, as there is in the world, countries, namely Russia, China and the BRICS countries and many other countries that do not agree to intervene in the internal affairs of other countries and destabilize the entire region, and their policies are based on the principles and interests of the self- freedom and independence of peoples, which should determine the fate of these people. I want to thank these countries, especially Russia, China and Iran, as well as all others who stood in defense of the people of Syria and help it to determine its own destiny.

In light of this knowledge cannot be the right decision, without considering these three factors: internal, regional and international. Any measure that does not affect these factors and does not take account, not a real solution, and does not affect the situation in general. Let’s start with the internal front, if some were inclined to see the beginning of a disagreement between the loyalists and the opposition, then, logically, the disagreement in the civilized world had to have resulted in a stronger home, not destroy it, and in the civilized world, the differences between the opposition and Loyalists would be to develop and strengthen the homeland, and not throw it back dozens of years ago, that we have in fact. When the people in opposition to act on behalf of foreign powers, then a conflict occurs between the country and the foreign powers, the conflict between the country’s independence and hegemony over it in other countries, the conflict between the independence and political occupation. And, therefore, the essence of this situation is to defend the homeland, united against external aggression, which uses some internal tools.

When we speak of “external opposition” or use similar expressions, we do not mean a particular place or country in which geographically live representatives of the opposition. When we say “external opposition,” we have in mind is the place to which are attached the heart and mind of these people, their preferences and beliefs, and above all a place where the funding of these people comes from. That’s what we meant by “external opposition” regardless of whether these people live inside or outside Syria, as there are people living on the contrary outside Syria, but they are in place to protect their country.

This crisis is not a confrontation between loyalists against the opposition, and it is also not a confrontation between the Syrian army and armed gangs and criminals. We are at war in the full sense of the word. We reflect brutal external aggression in the new disguise that deadly and dangerous than traditional war, because they do not use their traditional military tools against us. Instead, they are use in war, some Syrians and the large number of foreign mercenaries. Syria was involved in their larger projects, and this has made Syria desirable for their purpose.

War of this kind can be resisted, defending their homeland with the simultaneous and parallel reforms that are necessary for all of us, and which may or may not change the realities of war, but still it makes us stronger and strengthens our unity in the face of war. Some however believe that there is a basic solution that reforms will solve the problem in general, but this is not true. Reforms in the country – are an important factor, but not decisive.

Reform without security is like a security without reforms. Neither one nor the other will not function well in isolation. Those who continue to parrot that Syria chose “the way security”, not reform, they either cannot see or cannot hear. We have repeatedly said that the reforms and policies in the country are inseparable from the need to destroy the terrorists.

And to those who distorts and twists the facts, so we say when someone is attacked and he protects himself. Why, when the state is simply protecting his people when people defend their country, why do they say that these people chose the “road safety” (rather than reform)?

Protecting the homeland – an obligation which is not subject to debate and is legal, constitutional and religious duty, having no alternative choice. “The way security” – which is not an alternative either. Here one choice – self defense. When we offer a political decision and sought him from the early days of the crisis, it does not mean that we have abandoned the defense. Offering a political solution to the crisis from the first day, we thus sought political partner that would be able and willing to enter the world in the political process, to join us in a dialogue at the national level. But when we offered to political dialogue, we have not seen such a political partner that does not mean that we do not want any sort of political partners for negotiations. This means that we do not see a partner during the previous stage. To be more clear, here is an example, illustrate our situation, if someone wants to get married and is looking for a partner, but cannot find someone who wants it – it’s not to say that he does not want to marry. Therefore, any such statement, saying that the government of Syria has chosen “the path safety” instead of political reform – is wrong. And none of the Syrian officials at any level ever said that we have chosen “the path security.”

When you attack and you protect yourself, it’s called self-defense, not a choice “route security.” We did not choose war. The war was imposed on Syria, where the state protects the people, when we defend ourselves, no reasonable person could call it a choice, “the safe.” Protecting the homeland is a duty and the only choice, and the decision to carry out political reforms does not negate self-defense. But also political reforms imply a political partner for dialogue, which is ready to participate in this dialogue and reform.

We have never rejected a political dialogue as the main core of the progressive political process, and we extend our hand to all those who have been able to offer a national political project that can move Syria forward. But who we are we today to conduct the dialogue? Those who profess extremist views and does not believe in anything except force with blood, murder and terrorism.

Do we need to engage in dialogue with the gangs that receive orders from abroad, subject to foreigners who commanded them, break off the dialogue, because dialogue thwart their plans to weaken and undermine Syria – and we need to have a dialogue with these gangs?

The leaders of some countries of the region are well aware that if Syria will overcome the crisis, it will bury their political future of their country – because all citizens in their countries know that their leaders have deceived them that their leaders were involved in supporting terrorism and mass killing innocent people, they spent resources of their countries on all these things. As for the West, this descendant of colonialism and unsurpassed adherent policy of “divide and rule”, he is the one who closed the door of dialogue, not us, because the West is used to giving orders to his subordinates, and we got used to the sovereignty, independence and freedom of expression. West closed the door of dialogue, not us, because the West is accustomed to the mercenaries and the enslaved, and we were raised to the dignity and pride, and we will remain so. So, with that in mind, the question arises: how the West can have a dialogue with us, and why it should have a dialogue with us? So those of us who speak only a political solution Syrian crisis and ignores these facts, those people are either ignorant of the facts or the weak. They are thus at the mercy of criminals to give their country and its people as a delicate morsel, they give the country at the mercy of terrorists and those who are behind them, selling them for free people and the blood of his martyrs. We do not allow it.

Some are calling for only a political solution of the crisis; on the contrary, some speak only of the need to fight terrorism. But such proposals are not constructive, since the decision must be comprehensive and should contain several dimensions: the political dimension of the fight against terrorism and the third dimension – which is also very important – the social dimension. We have examples in Homs and Darayya especially where the situation has improved significantly due to activation of this social dimension. There patriotic people with high moral and national feeling, its private initiative to mediate between the State and those Syrians who have been misled by criminals and terrorists. And this led to very important results. These people act as a mediator, do not belong to any political party, they have no political agenda or the like. They just active patriot.

And this kind of social initiatives from below is important and it is important in any crisis in any country. Therefore, we must always go back to our social roots.

I want to welcome all those who are successful and active in the national-patriotic activity according to his personal ability. I know some of them and with nekotoroymi from H I knew personally, and there are some others, the functions of which I heard. There are unknown soldiers, we want to warmly welcome you and tell them that we are grateful to them for their patriotic private initiative.

It may seem that there is no one with whom we can engage in political dialogue after all that we have experienced and that have already taken. However, it is not. We will always reach out for dialogue. We will engage in dialogue with all those who disagree with us in politics and who advocate positions that are contrary to our own, but only if these are positions that do not undermine the fundamental national principles and foundations of Syria.

We will hold a dialogue with the political parties and individuals who have not sold their homeland to foreigners and those who laid down their arms and those proved that it bleeds genuine Syrian people. We shall be real and honest partners with every honest patriotic citizen who acts in the interests of Syria, for its security and stability.

In line with our basic principles, the most important of which are the state’s sovereignty and independence of decisions taken therein, and based on the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and international law, built on the fundamental principles of sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of countries and non-interference in their internal affairs , and based on our belief in the need for a dialogue between the citizens of Syria, carried out by the Syrians, and based on the need for restoration of a climate of stability and security in Syria, a political solution to the crisis will be as follows:

Stage 1:

First: interested and involved in the conflict regional and extra-regional countries cease funding, arming and training of the armed militants. Parallel armed forces cease their terrorist operations, facilitating the safe return of refugees with the Syrians in their places of residence. Immediately after that, the Syrian army stops fighting, reserving the right to respond in the event that the Motherland, its individual citizens or public or private property are attacked.

Second: The need for such a mechanism to securely fix the fact the consent of all involved with the notation above conditions, especially for border control.

Third: The current government immediately begins to establish intensive contacts with all the political and social spectrum of Syrian society, with all the parties and representatives of groups and organizations to hold an open discussion with them in order to pave the way for a national dialogue conference, which would participate and called all the powers seeking to resolve the contradictions in Syria, regardless of whether they are inside or outside the country.

Stage 2:

First: The incumbent government would call for the full and National Conference Dialogue for development and signing of the National Pact, securing Syria’s sovereignty, its unity and territorial integrity, and also incorporated a national rejection of foreign interference in the internal affairs of Syria and prohibiting terrorism and violence in the all its forms in the country.

Government’s appeal to all political parties and public organizations of Syrian society will aim to production and fixation of criteria and rules that will be later referred to above national conference dialogue. With regard to the said Covenant, which will be accepted by all parties conference dialogue, it would have to contain provisions that would form the basis for future political, constitutional, legal and economic system updated Syria, as the Covenant will include also the new agreement on the rules of party building , elections and local government.

Second: The Covenant will be submitted to a popular referendum to vote.

Third: This will generate a new expanded government, which will include representatives from all circles of Syrian society, and which will be taken to implement the provisions of the National Covenant.

Fourth: The new constitution will be put to a referendum in order to vote, and if approved by the people, a new expanded government would be obliged to harmonize and adapt the provisions adopted by the National Conference on the Dialogue to the provisions of the new constitution, including electoral law. After that, already by the new laws, there will be new parliamentary elections.

We cannot yet put the word if to all that is connected with the Constitution and new laws in it, because everything will depend on what kind of agreement will be reached by the parties at a national conference dialogue, which will later be presented to the public by the government.

Stage 3:

First: The new government will be formed until the account current constitution.

Second: There will be a General Conference of National Reconciliation, which will be declared a general amnesty to all those who had been detained because of recent events. In the force of law remain civil plaintiffs to defendants.

Third, the work will be started to rebuild the country’s infrastructure, but will also provide compensation to victims of the recent events.

As for amnesty, even though the state gives up its right of persecution, but it cannot and has no right to refuse this particular civilians, so the rules of civil plaintiffs to the defendants remain in force.

I believe that when we reach that stage, it would be an amnesty granted not only to the state, but also to those civilians who have private nature. After all, we did achieve national reconciliation, when all are mutually forgiven.

These main points of a political solution to the crisis, which I have just outlined are only general provisions that require filling specific details. Government to address that problem, he will be tasked to work out the specific details of the above notation, the general provisions, it has provided in the form of an initiative in the next days.

Let’s put every problem in its specific context, since we now live in an era of information fraud and misinterpretation. We do not interpret things, just that there is a general tendency to interpret facts and events in spite of their real value. Therefore, let us denote things in their context and the need to correct the distorted ideas and facts.

First, I will say concerning this political reforms – perhaps some will worry and think that they are – a step back in terms of security, but I want to assure all, that with regards to our fight against terrorism, we will not stop as long as long as Syria will be at least one terrorist. The war on terror continues. All what I suggested above regarding political reform does not affect the continued fight against terrorism. On the contrary, the more successful we will be in the eradication of terrorism, the greater the chances of success are future political reform.

Second, this is my vision to resolve the crisis, which can be called the initiative and just an idea – it is directed primarily to those who wish to dialogue, and to those who want above all a political solution to the current crisis in the near future. This vision certainly does not look to those who do not want dialogue, you know them well, and we will soon hear how they will reject our proposals, to which we respond to them in advance, why you reject something that you are not addressed and does not concern you? So now we know the answer in advance, they cannot waste their time.

Thirdly, any initiative proposed by either party, party, individual or country should be based on the Syrian vision of the future. This means that no initiative cannot replace the way we see the solution to the crisis in Syria. A clear language: any initiative is adopted, which should help to accomplish what they want the Syrians, and the initiatives that the Syrians want to substitute something else must be rejected. After the government will present detailed proposals for political reform, then any initiative or proposal from abroad will have to be based on the proposals submitted by the Government. There is no need to waste our time and the time of other such initiatives and proposals that are contrary to the Syrian context vision solution to the crisis.

At the same time, if anyone wonders how foreign initiatives can help us, then there are two planes: the plane of political cooperation and counterterrorism plane. In the first plane, we do not need help from the outside, we – the Syrians – are fully capable of independent implementation of an integrated political process. And those countries that genuinely want to assist Syria, they could focus their efforts in a practical way to combat terorrizom: to help prevent penetration of gangsters, guns and money across the border into Syria. This is our message to those abroad who facilitate us – so that they know where the most useful thing for us would be the application of their efforts. We do not want someone to come to Syria and told us how we need to keep the political process of the country. The country, whose history goes back thousands of years, she knows how to run their affairs.

Fourth, support initiatives to Front does not automatically mean that we accept and her interpretation of the events in Syria, if it is not in line with our vision. We do not accept the interpretation of these initiatives, except those that serve the interests of Syria. In this context, I mean the Geneva initiative, which supports Syria, but at the same time contains a controversial article about the transition period in Syria.

This controversial point is not explained exactly what a “transition period” is meant, because when we talk about the transition “period”, then we immediately raises the question we ask is “transition” from and where, or “transition” from what to what? This refers, for example, the “transition period” of a free and independent country to country under occupation? We have to make a “transition” from a country in which there is public administration in the country without a government in a state of total chaos? Or should we take a “transition” from the national independent decision to delegate these decisions to foreigners?

Of course, our opponents want to once all three of these my version of “transition,” but for us, the “transition period” can only mean the transition from instability to stability, and any other interpretation that does not concern us. In another situation, if we did not have this crisis, natural transition would be a transition from one state to the state system in the state with a better product. This goes without saying, in the context of the natural process of development of the state and society, and thus any “transitional period” in this natural process of development should take place within the existing constitution. And for us, the measures of political reforms proposed above, it is for us a “transition period.”

Fifth, all the initiatives and proposals that we have already agreed – we took because they conform to the principles of sovereignty and expression of the will of the people. Indeed, the initiatives that have been proposed, and we have worked from the beginning focused on these principles. Therefore, all agreements reached inside or outside Syria, and in the future must conform to the will of the people of Syria. That is why the National Pact, which will emerge out of the conference dialogue, must be approved by the Syrian people in a referendum. And we believe that the national referendum to be held in all cases when it comes to important decisions for the people, especially in the difficult situation in which we are today. We have notified all of that we will take any idea or proposal put to us from the outside or from Syria, but it must be approved by a referendum. No president, no government or through dialogue or otherwise – only through a referendum of the Syrian people. This gives us the guarantee of the legitimacy of the steps we are taking and which express the will of the people and national interests. These simple and clear words mean that those who are coming into Syria or its leaves, let them know that Syria takes note of good advice, but does not dictate, Syria takes sincere help, but does not accept the tyranny of the outside.

You may have heard recently in the media and from officials of different things, ideas, suggestions and initiatives “spring” origin, which, based on the above, the sovereignty and independence of Syria and its people, do not concern us. All ideas “spring” origin is no more than soap bubbles, just like the “spring.” But bubbles always burst. Any interpretation of any topic, if it does not comply with the sovereignty of Syria, is no more than a dream. They have a right to dream, to live in the fictional world of dreams and fantasy, but they cannot force us to live in the real world, made them for us, because we will not accept any offers, except those based on the Syrian reality and meet the interests and the will of the Syrian people.

Sisters and Brothers,

Homeland above all else, and Syria above all. We can make Syria even stronger if we hold political renewal and protect every bit of Syrian land. Syrians are known for their tolerance and forgiveness, but the main features of their character – the pride and patriotism. Most people resisted the domination of terrorism. Some of them help ensure competent authorities with valuable information that allowed them to prevent terrorist attacks against civilians. Others rose up against terrorists and deprived of their support, either by protecting their districts and neighborhoods of terrorists, or just going out on the streets in protest against the bandits. Many became martyrs, Hall’s death by doing so. Others defend the city, districts, neighborhoods and infrastructure, along with soldiers Syrian army.

I would like to give an example of a small village on the far north of Syria, in the province of al-Hasaka, the village is called Raas Al Ein, where brave young men of this village, located directly on the Turkish border, withstood repeated attacks by a few days of bandits and in the end drove them back to Turkey, where they came from. We want to give a welcome to this village and its courageous young people and thank them.

There are other citizens who are in the action of the national primereniya at the local level to discuss, explain and persuade others of our citizens, but they just were forgiven yourself, and as a result of the road was blocked to the passage of terrorists and the situation does not escalate in the area, and vice versa improved markedly.

Those citizens demonstrated a deep understanding of the situation. Seeking to reach the safety of its its neutral position, monitored by, flight or humiliation before an external force. If we are not strong and adventurous in our country, we are not going anywhere, so out of it. Homeland is not for those who enjoy it, and for those who defend it. Homeland is not for those who enjoy its brilliance and greatness, but does not come when Homeland encourages them.

Homeland for those who rose above all perepitiyami life and its complex social processes, and came to the rescue when Homeland needed them. Now is the time for gratitude and thank homeland needs not skimping anything. Some have fallen as martyrs and their blood pierced the bubble inflated false “Arab Spring”, and to protect people from her deception. Their blood pierced that bubble, which the West falsely calls “spring,” but it’s actually a vengeful fire flame kindle around ugly sectarianism, blind hatred and separation of people. It was a “spring” for those who planned it and tried to make it a reality, which is now falling apart.

The blood of martyrs will protect and defend our homeland and the region, it will protect our territorial integrity and strengthen the consensus among us, at the same time it clears our society of disloyalty and betrayal, it protects us from the moral, human and cultural decline that is our greatest achievement to moment. When Homeland triumfiruet, she does not forget those who sacrificed himself for her.

I would like to address my greetings and gratitude to those who deserve them most: the Syrian Army, which shed their blood and sweat for Syria. Congratulations to our Armed Forces, which will eliminate terrorism, are the most brutal of the war and are determined to restore security and peace in the land of our country.

The armed forces of Syria famous for their heroism on the battlefield because of their unity, stability and national allegiance, to save life to citizens and making them proud of their homeland and the army. Glory to each soldier, who brings to the end of the mission of his colleagues who have died!

I greet and thank each individual citizen, who made his national duty service in the Armed Forces. They – the pride of Syria, whose names will be forgotten in history, because their blood and valor write history itself.

Sisters and Brothers,

I know, and you all know it too well that what is now happening to our motherland is very painful and difficult, and I feel the pain felt by the majority of the Syrian people because they have lost loved ones and relatives who died the death of martyrs. Coffins with the martyrs come to many of us at home, and I – one of them, because I come from the people, belong to him and his son will stay people. State and government are transient and eternal homeland. Tears of mothers bereaved, refresh the pure souls of deceased loved ones, and burn in the fire of the criminals who stole the smiles of our children and try to steal their future in a safe, strong and stable country.

Syria will remain, and the Lord help us to become even stronger. There is nothing that can make us give up and back away.

They change us – Bashar Assad Speech from January 6, 2013
By: Bashar Assad Speech from January 6, 2013 on: 12.01.2013 [18:18 ] (75 reads)

USA: Gun Appreciation Day has been designated as January 19. More than 104 millions of Americans own assault rifles and are ready to kill for the right of keeping them.

The Second Amendment is not negotiable –Distro 1/4/2013 never forget that
h ttp://www.founderstruth.org/Home/tabid/40/EntryId/493/The-Bill-of-Rights-is-NOT-Negotiable.aspx

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms — much like the Right of Free Speech — is not negotiable. Its protections are not subject to the whims of majority opinion, nor the screaming demands of hyperventilating media personalities. All the social media trolls and opinion writers in the world can comment all they want on the Second Amendment, yet the individual right to keep and bear arms remains immutable.

Just like the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment is not negotiable. No Governor, Senator or President has any power whatsoever to banish the Second Amendment, and any who attempt to oppose it only brand themselves as criminal traitors to the United States of America. Any active effort to eradicate the Second Amendment outside of law — without going through the proper process of state ratification for Constitutional amendments — is, by definition, an act of sedition against the United States of America and its people.

Ironically, many who viciously attack the Second Amendment do so by invoking their free speech protections under the First Amendment. Yet they seem blind to the realization that the First Amendment itself is only made possible by the Second Amendment which balances power between the People and the government, ensuring that the individual right to bear arms serves as a check and balance against the monopoly of violence every government inherently seeks.

Disarmament of the populace is always the first step to depriving them of their civil rights and human rights. Without the right to bear arms, there is no right to free speech, no right to due process, no right to trial by jury and certainly no right to be secured against unreasonable search and seizure. A government with a monopoly of force is a government that respects no boundaries and honors no limits.

Grasping this point requires competent thinking, which is why so many who now flourish in America on the popularity of pop culture idiocy fail to understand it. It is intellectually lazy to blame gun rights for violence, requiring no depth of thought or reason. Only someone of higher awareness and possessing the aptitude for multi-layered thinking can realize the critical importance of distributed firepower in stopping government violence against the People. As Ron Paul recently said, “Government security is just another kind of violence.”

Ron Paul gets it. He understands that an imbalance of power in the hands of government inevitably leads to mass violence waged against the People. Those who are currently screaming for the population to be disarmed do not realize that in seeking to prevent one kind of violence (school shootings), they are unleashing a far more disastrous and horrifying violence by allowing the government to monopolize physical power over the citizens. This is a mistake that has been repeated throughout history, often at the cost of tens of millions of destroyed lives. Click here to watch my short video documentary that lays out these facts in more detail.

The Second Amendment was put in place precisely for the purpose of making sure that future Americans would not fall for the same mistake yet again. That’s why it is the second highest amendment, right after the right of free speech, indicating its crucial priority in the enumeration of sacred rights that must be protected at all costs.

The very politically incorrect truth about the Second Amendment

“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

My note:

The US Constitution was written to restrain the government. No amendment is more important for this purpose than the 2nd amendment. The 2nd amendment was written so the power could be kept with the citizenry in the face of a tyrannical government. It was well understood the Constitution acknowledged certain rights that could not be limited by government.

I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.
I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.

I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.

We, the people, deserve better than you.

As 77-year-old Ron Paul retires and brings his campaign to an end, he is refusing an opportunity to speak at the Republican National Convention to avoid endorsing Mitt Romney.

The 12-term libertarian Texas congressman staged a valedictory rally on Sunday before 10,000 supporters at the University of South Florida, before ending his campaign. Paul won 177 delegates to this year’s RNC, beating all other contenders aside from Romney and Rick Santorum. While Paul didn’t reach the numbers needed to make it to the White House, he is still leaving behind a movement of believers in the policies he preached.

“He was talking on a deeper level, and that opened my eyes. I feel like we’re his voice, we’re his legacy,” Paul activist Ashley Nicole York, 26, told the Christian Science Monitor.
Another one of his supporters, 26-year-old Antonio Rivera, said the congressman “enlightened” him on health-care policy, immigration and workings of the Federal Reserve.

“A lot of people say it’s the end of the Paul movement,” Rivera said. “But I think it’s just the beginning.”

Before leaving the spotlight, Paul said he wanted to bring his principles to college campuses with his “We Are the Future” rally and emphasize the importance spreading his movement’s influence.

Since Paul finished second to Romney in the New Hampshire primary, he is not able to address the convention. But the Romney campaign offered him an opportunity to give a speech – as long as it was approved by Romney’s staff and endorses the Republican nominee for president.

Paul rejected the offer on the basis that it wouldn’t align with his beliefs.

“It wouldn’t be my speech,” he said in an interview with the New York Times. “That would undo everything I’ve done in the last 30 years. I don’t fully endorse him for president.”

Even without giving a final speech at the RNC, Paul is leaving his policy beliefs and ideas with a number of successors. His son, Sen. Rand Paul, is likely to continue some of his father’s fights in Congress. In Tampa, 21-year-old Paul supporter Ashley Ryan told the Times she will take over as Maine’s national committeewoman after sitting as Paul’s delegate at the RNC.

He has also garnered increasing support from American voters. This election, Paul received two million voters at Republican nominating contests, which is five times the number he received in 1988. This is a significant number considering that only 10 percent of registered voters are libertarians.

“The young people have to start connecting with the older people,” he said.
As Paul leaves the stage standing true to his beliefs and refusing to endorse Romney, his supporters are optimistic about carrying on the movement he started many years ago.

“We used to say most people found libertarianism by reading Ayn Rand,” David Boaz of the Cato Institute told the Times. “In the last five years, most people have found libertarianism by listening to Ron Paul.”
