Yen Under Pressure, Holds Ground

By , April 22, 2013 2:43 am

Japanese coinsThe Japanese yen was under pressure from anticipation of more quantitative easing by the Bank of Japan, though the currency held ground versus the US dollar and even advanced against the yen today.

BoJ Governor Haruhiko Kuroda was emboldened to proceed with aggressive devaluing the yen as the Group of Twenty did not oppose such policy. Kuroda said:

Winning international understanding gives me more confidence to conduct monetary policy appropriately. We will continue our qualitative and quantitative easing for the next two years.

It will be hard for the yen to resist the pressure from the central bank, but the currency tries to do so as of now.

USD/JPY was at 99.81 as of 9:10 GMT today after falling from 99.80 to 99.57. EUR/JPY declined from 130.51 to 130.26.

Zloty Erases Losses, Under Pressure from Fundamentals

By , March 15, 2013 5:54 am

Polish zloty notesThe Polish zloty gained today, erasing previous losses. The earlier drop was caused by worries that unfavorable fundamentals will lead to another interest rate cut.

Poland’s consumer price inflation slowed to 1.3 percent in February from a year ago, the lowest level since October 2006, being below the forecast of 1.5 percent. The current account deficit widened to €1.5 billion in January from €1.2 billion in December. The negative macroeconomic indicators led to speculations that the central bank may cut interest rates, which are already record low.

USD/PLN fell from 3.1960 to 3.1777 as of 12:09 GMT today after rising to 3.2005.

More Downward Pressure on the Canadian Dollar

By , March 5, 2013 9:08 am

Canadian coins on Canadian dollar billsOnce again, the Canadian dollar appears to be struggling. Even though there is a measure of enthusiasm for risk assets today, there is just too much, fundamentally, dragging on the loonie to help it enjoy some of the gains other currencies are seeing against the US dollar today.

Even though the euro and pound have seen their earlier rally against the dollar fizzle a bit, they are still gaining against the US dollar today. Many risk currencies are seeing good success against the greenback, but the loonie appears to have been left out of the party.

Worries about the economic situation in Canada continue to weigh on the loonie. When one considers that the 2008 surplus reported by Statistics Canada in terms of balance of international payments has given way to an account deficit amounting to almost four per cent of GDP, the situation certainly seems to be deteriorating.

As a result, there isn’t much boosting the loonie. Unemployment is on the rise, there are still housing bubble concerns, and other economic indications point to possible problems. Even high oil prices today aren’t helping the Canadian dollar.

At 16:03 GMT USD/CAD is up to 1.0280 from the open at 1.0273. EUR/CAD is up to 1.3398 from the open at 1.3382. GBP/CAD is up to 1.5554 from the open at 1.5525.

Retail Sales Put Pressure on Sterling, But Currency Resists

By , February 15, 2013 7:22 pm

Banknotes of 5, 10 and 20 poundsThe Great Britain pound closed stronger, erasing the previous losses, on the last trading session of this week. The losses were caused by the report that showed decline of retail sales last month.

Retail sales dipped 0.6 percent in January from a year ago on a seasonally adjusted basis, putting a halt to the year-on-year growth seen in the retail sector since August 2011. Analysts have hoped for 0.5 percent growth. The data added to signs of recession in the UK economy.

The pound may yet fall in the near future as the Group of Twenty meeting is not likely make central banks worldwide stop their accommodative policies, which weaken currencies. Still, it is questionable how real the help from the stimulating monetary policy for the UK economy. Anyway, doubts about the effectiveness of the easing measures are negative for the sterling too.

GBP/USD rose from 1.5493 to the closing price of 1.5515 after touching 1.5460 intraday — the lowest since July 13. GBP/JPY went up from 143.87 to 145.12 following the drop to 142.74. EUR/GBP was down from 0.8622 to 0.8608 and its intraday low was at 0.8572.

CAD Gains as BoC Leaves Rates Stable, Downside Pressure Remains

By , December 4, 2012 4:15 pm

LooniesThe Canadian dollar gained versus its US counterpart and trimmed the losses against the euro and the Japanese yen today after the Bank of Canada left its target overnight rate stable and continued to speak about future interest rate hikes.

The BoC kept its main interest rate at 1 percent at today’s policy meeting. Such decision was expected by market participants. The central bank noted in the accompanying statement that “over time, some modest withdrawal of monetary policy stimulus will likely be required”. The BoC is the only bank among Group of Seven central banks to retain hawkish stance.

The Canadian currency was a bit soft even after the positive news as the US fiscal cliff weighed on the traders’ confidence. President Barack Obama and Republicans are trying to find common ground, but were unsuccessful so far. That undermines any other positive factors that may influence the Forex market.

USD/CAD fell from 0.9949 to 0.9930 as of 22:39 GMT today. EUR/CAD was up from 1.2987 to 1.3033 before trading at 1.3000. CAD/JPY was at 82.46 after falling from 82.61 to 82.14.

Pressure Builds for Full-Scale War on Syria

Pressure Builds for Full-Scale War on Syria

theintelhub.com
October 1, 2012

Rhetoric hides intent. Turkey wants safe zones, and perhaps a no-fly zone. Britain and France both said no options are ruled out, including a no-fly zone. Ahead of US November elections, Washington is more low key, but not entirely.

Obama stresses he’s open to all options. On September 27, Hillary Clinton met openly with Assad opponents at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel. She did also privately with so-called Friends of Syria.

She announced millions of dollars more aid. She claimed it’s mostly for humanitarian purposes. America does nothing that way. Everything it does has ulterior motives.

Washington will also supply more communication equipment. It “includ(es) satellite-linked computers, telephones, and cameras, as well as training for” opposition elements and supporters, she said.

She expressed frustration about lack of more aggressive Security Council action. She suggested Washington may bypass the body, saying:

“It is no secret that our attempts to move forward at the UN Security Council have been blocked repeatedly, but the United States is not waiting.” She said it before. She left little doubt what she means. Obama’s UN address was also belligerent against Iran and Syria.

Expect military intervention ahead against both countries. It’s longstanding policy. Post-November 6 elections, it’s coming. All independent governments are vulnerable.

Syria and Iran top Washington’s target list. NATO countries and regional allies are pressured to go along. Some need no prodding. Israel urges it. Britain willingly partnered with America’s imperial agenda for decades.

It’s always ready to go to war if asked. It has a belligerent reputation to uphold. David Owen once served as foreign secretary. On September 27, he headlined a London Telegraph op-ed “Only a no-fly zone brokered with Russia can bring peace.”

Establishing a no-fly zone or safe havens in Syrian territory assures war. Washington’s war on Libya proved what Owen and other observers understand well.

Effectively he advocated belligerent intervention. He quoted Prime Minister David Cameron in New York saying: “The blood of these young (Syrian) children is a terrible stain on the reputation of the United Nations.”

He avoided explaining US and UK involvement. Their bloodstained hands are too obvious to ignore. He was silent on Western aggression on Syria. His government is directly responsible for lost lives.

He pointed fingers the wrong way. He blamed Security Council members with veto power. He wants Russia and China to yield to US/UK/French rage for war on Syria.

He wrongfully called conflict there civil. There’s nothing civil about it. Syria was invaded. Mercenary death squads were recruited from regional countries. They’re given safe havens in bordering countries.

Washington, Britain, France, Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and perhaps other imperial allies have been arming, funding, training, and directing them. They’re responsible for thousands of deaths. Assad’s doing his best to restore peace. He faces stiff headwinds.

Owen said he “was one of the first to argue for a no-fly zone over Libya.” He knew full well what would follow. He wants it repeated for Syria. “NATO is the only organization” able to enforce no-fly zone protection, he added.

He wants Russia pressured to go along. His notion of restoring peace is first wage war. Hasn’t he paid attention to what’s happening in Libya? At age 74, perhaps he’s prematurely senile.

More likely, he wants another country ravaged and dominated by Western powers. He’s comfortable perhaps with tens or hundreds of thousands more deaths to make it possible.

In 2011, The New York Times promoted war on Libya. It backs intervention now against Assad. It practically mocked the cold-blooded murder of Press TV correspondent Maya Naser.

A Western-recruited death squad sniper assassinated him. He was doing his job. He was alone and live on air at the time. He was vulnerable from where he reported.

The Times claimed he was embedded with Syrian forces. None were close by when he died. Press TV’s Damascus Bureau Chief Hosein Mortada was attacked and injured at the same time.

Both were covering twin Damascus blasts and ensuing fighting. Heroically, they put their lives on the line daily doing it.

Press TV News Room Director Hamid Reza Emadi said:

“We hold Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, who provide militants weapons to kill civilians, military personnel and journalists, responsible for killing Maya.

“Press TV will pursue the matter of the murder of Maya and would not let those who killed the correspondent feel like they can kill the media people and get away with it.”

Last February, The Times claimed its Syrian correspondent, Anthony Shadid, died from asthma complications. It seemed far-fetched at the time. Death by drowning is more likely. Perhaps cover-up was Times policy.

Shadid’s cousin Ed Shadid said he told his wife: “If anything happens to me, I want the world to know that The New York Times killed me.” By that he meant he didn’t want to go and got little support while there.

That aside, Times executive editor, Jill Abramson, praised him, saying:

“Anthony died as he lived – determined to bear witness to the transformation sweeping the Middle East and to testify to the suffering of people caught between government oppression and opposition forces.”

On the one hand, Abramson lied both about Shadid and what’s ongoing regionally. On the other, Shadid was praised in contrast to how Maya Naser was mocked.

Most important is what’s been ongoing in Syria since March 2011, where it’s likely heading, and how consistently The Times misreports.

Russia’s been out in front trying to restore calm and peace. On September 28, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov addressed the UN General Assembly. He reiterated comments he made earlier. The way to end conflict is to adhere to last June’s Geneva Agreement, he said.

“We proposed to adopt a resolution in the UN Security Council that would endorse the Geneva communique as the basis for negotiations at the beginning of the transitional period, but this proposal had been blocked.”

“Those who oppose the implementation of the Geneva communique in fact push Syria even deeper into the abyss of bloody sectarian strife.”

“Extremist organizations including al-Qaeda have become more active in Syria – they perpetrate terrorist attacks against innocent civilians and civil infrastructure.”

He also condemned any unilateral sanctions “imposed by a state or a group of states sidestepping the United Nations to advance their political goals.”

Without naming names, he left little doubt he blamed Washington and key NATO allies for ongoing Syrian conflict.

On September 28, China’s Xinhua New Agency headlined “Outside Meddling in Syria Threat to Whole World Order: Russian Official,” saying:

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said:

“The attempts to look for ways out of the crisis in Syria outside the U.N. Security Council would have very destructive and dangerous consequences for Syria itself, for the Middle East region and, eventually, for the current world order as a whole.”

“Implementation of the Libyan model, supporting only one side in this confrontation is a way to nowhere.”

He also warned about worrisome regional “deep changes.” They’ll cause serious repercussions elsewhere for a long time, he added.

On September 28, Russia’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Khodynskaya-Golenishcheva called “inadmissible clauses” in the UN Human Rights Council’s (HRC) Syrian resolution unacceptable, saying:

“One can’t agree with the unilateral conclusions concerning the tragedy in El-Houleh as well as with the fact that these murders are similar to other such incidents in Syria.”

She added that other powers supported and encouraged Syrian violence. She left little doubt which ones she meant. It’s no secret.

It’s also well-known the HRC provided cover for Washington’s war on Syria since last year. Its reports are shameless and one-sided. They have no credibility whatever.

On September 28, it extended the mandates of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) on Syria, saying:

On September 24, its resolution A/HRC/21/L.32 addressed human rights in Syria. It was adopted 41 – 3. Russia, China and Cuba voted no. India, Uganda, and the Philippines abstained.

Supportive countries will have to explain why they supported bald-faced lies. It’s not first time and won’t be the last.

HRC “condemn(ed) in the strongest terms the massacre of the village of Al-Houla near Homs, where the forces of the Government of Syria and members of the Shabbiha were found by the Commission of Inquiry to be the perpetrators of outrageous and heinous crimes….”

HRC and voting countries know Assad had nothing to do with it. Eyewitnesses blamed death squad killers. HRC lied saying otherwise. Doing so support imperial lawlessness.

It called on all parties to cease violence. Mercenaries are entirely responsible. Well-known facts are suppressed. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay defiled her mandate.

Instead of responsibly “strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights,” she spurned them in deference to Western interests.

HRC’s so-called COI is an imperial body established to lie. It suppresses truth and full disclosure. It consistently points fingers the wrong way. Its reports ignore credible eye-witness testimonies. Clear evidence is consistently left out.

Washington said it was proud to co-sponsor the resolution. No doubt it’s gratified by ravaging one country after another and the millions of deaths it caused.

HRC systematically avoids condemnation. Instead it welcomes a rogue state member in good standing. How many more millions of corpses will it tolerate?

America’s responsible for more global violence, deaths and destruction than the rest of the world combined. Perhaps HRC can explain why this goes entirely whitewashed and unnoticed.

Perhaps one day a real HRC will replace the sham one now in place. Perhaps truth and full disclosure will have a chance it’s been denied for so long.

Syria commented on HRC’s latest act of shame, saying:

“(S)peaking as the concerned country, (Syria) condemned the presentation of the draft resolution because it made libelous statements and because the Human Rights Council was based on fundamental principles of dialogue and cooperation, and those were the ways to promote human rights.”

“This draft resolution did not reflect the reality in Syria; on the contrary, it was based on accusations and fictitious reports, such as on the Al-Houla massacre, which the Government had condemned in the strongest terms.”

“The Commission of Inquiry had not visited Syria, had not arrived to definite conclusions concerning the massacres and had not taken into account the results of the Ad Hoc Committee established by Syria to investigate the crimes.”

“The seven co-sponsors had ignored aspects of the Commission of Inquiry’s report on the barbaric acts committed by armed groups in Syria.”

“Moreover, the Commission of Inquiry had highlighted the adverse impact of sanctions on Syria, and those were also not included in this draft resolution.”

“Some of the co-sponsors forgot that they did not have the right to give advice because they were directly involved in killing the Syrian people and could not call on others to respect human rights before they respected them at home.”

“Syria rejected the draft resolution and urged all countries that sincerely wished to help the Syrian people to vote against.”

Imperial countries, supportive bodies, and go-along media never say they’re sorry. Hegemons ravage humanity for wealth, privilege, and dominance. Supporters back what they should condemn.

Millions everywhere suffer horrifically. They’re on their own to survive and change things. Hopefully they’ll try before it’s too late.

Israel under international pressure not to attack Iran alone

Israel under international pressure not to attack Iran alone
By: Crispian Balmer (sent by Invictus) on: 01.09.2012 [10:19 ] (142 reads)

Israel is facing growing international pressure not to attack Iran unilaterally, with the United States in particular making clear its firm opposition to any such strike.

Recent rhetoric by Israeli leaders that time is running out to halt Iran’s contested nuclear programme has raised concern that military action might be imminent, despite repeated calls from abroad to give sanctions and diplomacy more time to work.

The U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, has always cautioned against a go-it-alone approach, but he appeared to up the ante this week by saying Washington did not want to be blamed for any Israeli initiative.

“I don’t want to be complicit if they (Israel) choose to do it,” Dempsey was quoted as saying by Britain’s Guardian newspaper on Friday, suggesting that he would view an Israeli attack as reprehensible or illegal.

He went on to repeat that although Israel could delay Iran’s nuclear project, it would not destroy it. He said that unilateral action might unravel a strong international coalition that has applied progressively stiff sanctions on Iran.

“(This) could be undone if (Iran) was attacked prematurely,” he was quoted as saying.

While Tehran says its nuclear programme is peaceful, Western powers believe it is trying to produce an atomic bomb. Israel, believed to have the only nuclear arsenal in the Middle East, views a nuclear-armed Iran as a threat to its existence.

Adding to the sense of urgency, the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency said on Thursday Iran had doubled the number of uranium enrichment centrifuges in an underground bunker, showing its desire to expand its nuclear work.
CRACKS IN THE ALLIANCE

Israel’s vice prime minister Moshe Yaalon said on Friday he feared Iran did not believe it faced a real military threat from the outside world because of mixed messages from foreign powers.

“We have an exchange of views, including with our friends in the United States, who in our opinion, are in part responsible for this feeling in Iran,” he told Israel’s 100FM radio station.

“There are many cracks in the ring closing tighter on Iran. We criticise this,” he said, also singling out U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for travelling to Tehran this week.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he will speak out about the dangers of Iran in an address next month to the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

He is also expected to hold talks with U.S. President Barack Obama during his visit. A senior Israeli official told Reuters this month that Netanyahu would be looking for a firm pledge of U.S. military action if Iran does not back down.

However, the meeting might well be icy.

Israel’s top-selling daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Friday that there had been an “unprecedented” and “angry” exchange between Netanyahu and the U.S. ambassador in Tel Aviv earlier this month over Iran.

Quoting a source who was present at the meeting, Netanyahu had criticised Obama for not doing enough to tackle Iran. The U.S. ambassador Daniel Shapiro took exception and accused the prime minister of distorting Obama’s position.

The prime minister’s office declined to comment on the report and there was no initial response from the U.S. embassy.

Adding to the growing chorus of concern facing Netanyahu, Haaretz newspaper reported on Friday that German Chancellor Angela Merkel had delivered a “harsh message” to Netanyahu 10 days ago, telling him to hold off on any attack plans.

The German embassy in Tel Aviv declined comment.

Israeli officials have repeatedly said that a growing array of sanctions against Iran are not having any impact on the Tehran leadership and believe they will only back down in the face of a credible threat of military action.

However, Netanyahu faces an uphill task persuading his own military and inner circle of the wisdom of a unilateral strike. Political sources told Reuters on Tuesday an ultra-orthodox party in his coalition was opposed to war.

Patriot Pressure Forces Black Racism Film Mainstream After Censorship Attempts
By: Southwest Nationalist (sent by Invictus) on: 21.08.2012 [19:57 ] (98 reads)

After the mainstream media decided to ignore it, after TouTube decided to delete it, after police declined to investigate, pressure from us patriots has succeeded in forcing them to look at the horrendous racism video of a black ranting on public transport and expose it to a far wider audience.

It’s now appeared in the Daily Mail – wonder if their video gets deleted from YouTube?

This disgusting rant was removed from YouTube for ‘violating hate speech’ rules and had received no mention in the mainstream media.

We here at SWN made copies available for download.

Corsham Crusader at the British Resistance reposted it to YouTube but I believe his copy was removed today.

Casuals United ran several articles on it, and indeed deserve a hat tip for bringing it to mainstream attention.

Britain First had an excellent story posted today and again made downloads of the video available.

The media wanted to ignore it, it’s only whites can be racist and it’s only whites they want in the headlines.

The police would have preferred to do nothing, they have no interest in racism allegations when the allegations are directed at white people.

YouTube deleted it – they seemingly only want whites being racist as evidenced by the fact that the Emma West and Jacqueline Woodhouse videos were allowed to get millions of hits, and are indeed still online.

Thanks to us patriots though – they can’t ignore it, they can’t delete it, they can’t pretend it didn’t happen.

Vile as the race laws are, if we have to live by them then so should everyone else in this country.

Everyone in the mainstream prefers to hide minority racism – even though it is prevalent, sickening, and all directed at us.

All prefer to stick with the official mantra – only whites can be racist, only minorities can be victims.

Today us patriots have shown them that they made the laws and the system in order to subjugate us – but we can damn well make sure that their chosen minorities are answerable to the same rules and that it is impossible to whitewash (is that racist?) every bit of hatred directed at the British by our enrichers.

They have no choice, else the system crumbles if they openly admit that it is a system which is biased against whites from top to bottom.

Good job British Resistance, Casuals United, Britain First, and everyone else who had a hand in exposing this.

We can and will make a difference brothers and sisters, perhaps this is a small victory but it shows what we can achieve.

Poor Canadian Retail Sales Add to Pressure on Loonie

By , July 24, 2012 4:23 pm

Canadian 20-dollar billsThe Canadian dollar fell today for the third consecutive session versus the US dollar and the Japanese yen as worse-than-expected domestic data in Canada added to the downside pressure on the currency that is caused by signs of global economic slowdown. The Canadian currency was stronger against the euro.

The markets reflected the poor mood of traders. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index of shares was down 0.9 percent today. The S&P GSCI Index, which tracks 24 commodities, dropped 0.5 percent. Not a good trading environment for a commodity currency.

Usually, domestic fundamentals help the Canadian currency, but that was not the case today. Retail sales rose 0.3 percent in May. The figure was much better than the April reading of -0.6 percent, but still below the expected growth of 0.4 percent.

USD/CAD was up from 1.0188 to 1.0222 and CAD/JPY was down from 76.87 to 76.44 as of 22:16 GMT today. EUR/CAD fell from 1.2344 to 1.2322.

Europe Remains Source of Fear, CAD Still Under Pressure

By , July 23, 2012 3:54 pm

Canadian 100-dollar billsThe Canadian dollar was weak today. The explanation for the poor performance was simple: worries about Europe and its debt gain strength again. The Canadian dollar fell even versus the euro, which itself was under pressure from the negative sentiment.

The yield of Spanish bonds surged to 7.5 percent. It broke above the 7 percent level that is considered important as other indebted countries asked for a rescue after their borrowing costs broke through that line. Greece also makes investors nervous as it is not likely to fulfill its obligations for the Troika.

The things in Canada itself look good as Cnooc Ltd., the largest offshore oil and gas explorer in China, bought the Canadian company Nexen Inc. That shows an interest from overseas investors in Canadian assets. Yet the Canadian currency paid more attention to the bad foreign news that to the good domestic ones.

USD/CAD climbed from 1.0138 to 1.0191 as of 21:47 GMT today, jumping as high as 1.0204 intraday — the highest price since July 12. EUR/CAD was up from 1.2286 to 1.2340, while earlier today it reached the record low of 1.2278. CAD/JPY declined from 77.37 to 76.83 and its daily minimum of 76.60 was the lowest since June 29.
